| Hi,
Just a quick contact. I love your photo collection and can see that there are many gems here. As owner of BPH106H I am interested to know if you can tell me any more about the photo - is it one of yours for example. I do not know if you are aware of the preservation of this vehicle in North Wales.
Cheers.... |

| Jonathon - I hadn't realised BPH 106H was now based in north Wales, so can't be a million miles from my home town of Oswestry! I'm afraid I don't know much about the photo as it is not one of my own (I bought it from a rally a couple of years ago) and there is nothing written on the back. Looking at the photo more closely I think it is in fact taken in Launceston and not Liskeard (I've now amended the caption on the website), and I'm guessing the date is around 1980 as this was the year it was sold by Caradon Riviera Tours to Launceston Car Hire and it carries both fleet names in the photo. I also have two photos of it in Launceston Car Hire's own colours (grey and blue), one a rear end view showing lettering for the 'Town Bus Service', suggesting that it was used on Launceston Town Services. If you leave your email using the 'Leave a Message' box on my site I can send you copies of these. Trystan. |

| Lee,
I'm not entirely sure whether the MetroRiders are still owned - like you I haven't seen any for a while. The last one I saw in Wrexham was the newest Optare-built example, H162 WWT, but that must have been over a year ago now. Are you the same Lee who's requested more photos of Wrexham independents? If so, I'm afraid I don't have any of Dyma Fo or Royston Hire, but I'll dig some out of Devaway and D. Jones & Son. Are there any other operators you are interested in?

| Good to see JOH889N, I drove this on a college contract after passing my test in the early 80's. Also great to see Carreglefn. Have you any more Anglesey fleets? I've been taking photos of both these fleets since the mid 70's but there's a few that I've missed. |

| I think that this vehicle is a 27 seater with a concertina door which was worked via a fairly crude mechanical set up to the left of the driver. There was also a similar 29 seater vehicle with a sliding door, and between them they regularly worked the Oswestry Town service prior to the arrival of the two ex London Green Line RF's (12&13) during 1964. The two vehicles were known by the drivers - and some passengers - as the Cocoa Tin and the Sardine Can, but after all this time I cannot remember which was which. The photograph is taken outside what used to be Wynne Robers Ltd Newsagents, opposite the Bear Hotel in Oswestry, wher I was employed after leaving school 1n 1970 until the following summer! I can remember this vehicle being used on Thursdays (Town Service finished just after lunch - early closing day) on the school bus from the High Schools in Oswestry to Whittington on many occasions in 1963/1964 when I had the privilege of being a passenger! I think that the vehicle was withdrawn on the arrival of the RF's or soon after. These smaller vehicles were also used after 1715 on the Oswestry - Whittington service (also on Thuirsdays) when a part time driver -Eric Roberts drove. I seem to remember that Eric was normally a taxi driver and did not like to drive the larger regular Whittington Service Bus. |

| It is great to see this old Brutonian bus lasted the so well. This bus started out life with Hutchins and Cornelius before being sold to Chris Knubley at Brutonian Bus Co in Jun 79. This was one of two he acquired from H&C, the other being WYD 928H, which does not appear to have lasted and had the lengthy working life that CYA has had. This was a smart bus and at the time the newest bus they had ever ran. it was reliable and worked mainly on route 12 in the Shaftesbury area in the hands of John (Jack) Holland, who didn't like it! He preferred his old Leyland Panther BNC 877C. I hear CYA is in restoration with Quantock Motor Services, but I would like to hear how it is progressing. Are they returning it to original H&C, Brutonian or Knotty livery? |

| Charlie Wrights (as he was known locally in wrexham) had four of these leyland lynx from brand new, this one f259 gwj was the second of two new in 1989 along with f258 gwj, in 1991 another two joined the single decker fleet as new with h408 yma and h256 ylg making up a total of four. but these lynx's we're solid quiet and less smokey buses compared to the more older single deckers and remained with the company when they went out of business due to heavy competition from crosville which i remember very vividly. |

| Lee - Peter Waters started operating minibuses in 1963 , later introducing a stage carriage service between Penley and Wrexham and a twice-weekly service to Ellesmere alongside school contracts and private hire work. Operation of the business passed to Peter's partner, Brenda Waters in 1987 and a Wrexham - Gresford - Pandy - Wrexham circular service was introduced using four shortened Bedfords from Lancaster Corporation. The company ceased trading in 1991. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of Waters vehicles, but there is a Dyma Fo photograph at http://donald1852.fotopic.net/p39509293.html
Some more pics of Wrexham independents to come soon. HTH, Trystan |

Have you got any pics of E. Jones & Son Passenger?

| Immediately after the split the side of the business that is now D. Jones & Sons traded as E. Jones & Sons Passenger, to destinguish the operation from E. Jones & Sons of Ponciau and to emphasise the fact that local service work as opposed to coaching was the core activity. I don't actually have any photos of vehicles displaying the shortlived E. Jones & Sons Passenger fleet name, but there is a separate collection of E. Jones & Sons (Ponicau) pictures listed under Jones (E. Jones & Sons). Trystan. |

|---|
| Thanks for that information a really appreciate it
While on the subject of Dyma-Fo i wonder if you could tell me what happened to Royston Coach Hire? |
|---|
| Hi does anyone know when the business was set up? |
|---|
| Royce Coaches was established by Roy Chard in 1973, initially as a taxi/minibus operator. Several stage carriage services were operated in and around Wrexham. Roy's two sons later helped out with the business but after Roy's death in 1990 founded their own company which traded as Economy Coach Hire. This ceased a year later.
Lee, if you contact me via the 'Leave a Message' tab on the index page I may be able to sort out some pics for you. Trystan |

|---|
| To the best of my knowledge this was the first coach owned by Hampson's which had reclining seats. If I remember rightly it had forty seats and the back row only had four rather than five as on many coaches. Presumably this was to allow for the mechanism of the reclining seats. When on our school bus the seats were forever going from upright to reclined and back again. As can be seen in the photo Hampson's fleet was usually turned out well. If you look closely you can see the antimacassars on the seat backs - they were always cream with a maroon italic H. |

| Hi just wondered if you knew which part of Wrexham M A Evans was based?
|---|
| Not sure where the depot was but began operating a route between Wrexham (Brook Street) and Rhos in 1919. In 1928 operation transferred to Wrexham - Acton/Rhosnesni corridor, and later to Maesydre. In 1962 a licence was granted for a service to Boras. The routes and vehicles were sold to E. Jones & Sons in 1985. |
|---|
| My wife is the Great Grandaughter of M A Evans; the Depot/Garage was in Chapel Street, Wrexham, in the area now taken up by the doctor's surgery car park (Plas-Y-Bryn). I'd love to see more pics of the M A Evans fleet... |

| This was one of ninety RW-class Renaults new to London Buses in 1990 for use on the E-Line network in the Ealing area. Many of these vehicles proved hugely unreliable but somehow struggled on until replaced by Dart SLFs in 1997-8. This must have been one of the more reliable RWs, as it seems that few survive today. |

Leyland Royal Tiger / Burlingham Seagull KNT 780, Knockin Heath late 1960s Vaggs, Knockin Heath (Updated 27th July 2008) |
|---|
| This vehicle was originally owned by D&J Gittins of Llynclys, near Oswestry before being sold to Vaggs. It was sold by Vaggs about 1974 to myself and five friends, all members of the Cambrian Railways Society Ltd in Oswestry for £80. Sadly we did not have the time or the expertise to restore it, and we gave it away to two gentlemen Colin--- and Godfrey Evans who had already restored a Bedford OB, and had suitable covered accomodation. After Godfrey's untimely death it passed to Boultons of Cardington who used it on a service to Ironbridge Gorge Museum at weekends. When Godfrey and Colin had restored it (Gittins Livery) I did have a trip on it to a Bus Rally in conjunction with an event at the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn. It was an EXCELLENT day out. This I think was in the early 1980's. |
|---|
| I was also one of the people who subscribed towards the £80 before leaving the area for college. Currently arranging with Boultons for a trip out in it in late July. |
|---|
| Hi, just to let you know that KNT780 is still going strong, and is used on many wedding jobs where i have the pleasure of driving her, i still see Colin Bebb who currently works at Arriva Shrewbury and he still enjoy seeing KNT on the road, i do remember KNT when she was at Vaggs, i still think that Vaggs livery look good on her. |
